Concussions are prevalent in athletes, but you can also experience a concussion in a fall or car accident. That’s why it’s important to know the signs and symptoms of a concussion and when to see a doctor for treatment.
What is a concussion?
A concussion is a mild traumatic brain injury that occurs when the brain is jolted or shaken inside the skull.
The most common causes of concussion are falls, car accidents, assaults, and sports injuries. Loss of consciousness is a sure sign of a concussion. But not losing consciousness doesn’t mean you’re in the clear. Seek medical attention if you or someone you know may have a concussion.
What are the symptoms and signs of a concussion?
Symptoms and signs usually appear soon after the injury, but more serious symptoms can appear in the first 24 to 48 hours. Monitor the injured person closely for worsening symptoms.
